The Story So Far

On our opening night we had a few head to heads between Paul Stacey and Andrew Warner fielding Cerci and Black Diamond. The game was closely contested but Malya's pace and threat proved too much in the end for the diamond corp scoring 6-3 to Cerci.

The corsairs and Broadside get ready to loot some booty, arrrggghhhhhhh.
Our second game of the evening was between Graeme Nicholls and Paul Cocks who were fielding the Shattered Sword and Corsairs respectively. Talk about a turn one! Graeme successfully nuked the broadside with his first activation using coordinated attack with the Swordsworn putting Paul on the back foot from the get go. Paul managed to stick around for quite a while dodging and weaving with Darkspace Isabeau for the corsairs (what a pesky minx). Sadly it wasn't enough for paul and Graeme took the win scoring an outright 6-0.

Industrial board saw the Cerci and Black Diamond go head to head.
Third game up was Craig (me) vs Charlotte fielding our own Doctrine and Cerci. I Think I tried to be too clever here testing a few units I never really use and it fell to pieces for me not being able to get through the Suicide Queen's guards. The game was however a stalemate as neither of us could complete our primary as the time ticked away so we called it at 3 VP each for the first draw of the league.

Difficult terrain is... Difficult
Next up was Paul Cocks again against a new player coming fresh to the game Tom. For a first time effort Tom did a great job scoring 4 victory points with the Doctrine but Paul's prior games experience took him through with a 6-4 victory using the Corsairs.

When only one scurvy filled pirate will do, Captain Harker is on the job!
Fifth game of the league went back to Paul and Andy for a rematch, Andy wanted retribution for his last defeat fielding his Black Diamond again this time with a Diamondback addition, whilst Andy swapped factions and brought out the Noh. This was a much different game and more a war of attrition, neither able to get the upper hand. In the end the game was called by time and Paul had wrung out a well earned 4-1 for the Noh victory. On fire this shot Paul to the top of the leader board with everyone eye-balling him as the guy to beat!

Careful positioning to stop Candy getting in for the token drop.
I then got chance to play against Graeme and his Swordsworn, but wait! He did the switcheroo and fielded Candy instead with Navarre, Isabeau and Fiametta, Cheeky! I went out with an entirely Codifer list of Brahe, Zineda, Togan & Cecilia and Fiametta. Let the games begin! This was such a close game I cannot give Graeme any more credit as we was one activation from victory for either side at the end. At one point I managed to get three Esper Storms out on the field causing a nuisance. Both Fiametta's on 1 and 2 wounds each were locked in a battle to be the first to destroy the other and Graeme managed to be first past the post with that, blowing her away with Candy. Seeing bloody red Brahe Nuked the remaining Fiametta with TPK. One victory point each... In the dying moments of the game Graeme was set to return his final two tokens to his primary objective with Candy and Navarre in range, but wait! With some clever positioning I blocked access to his objective with Zineda and Togan & Cecilia and managed to fire off a Remain Where You Are on Candy from Brahe (having law with Doctrine is nice!). This was well timed as Navarre was up next and he didn't have the cards to remove the AoE. Thus Candy activated and couldn't get into position to push all my models out of the way leaving me the activation I needed to get the last sabotage token in play. A really close game and some epic moments including me being close to drawing through my deck whilst Graeme had secure tokens on his objectives. But in the end the Doctrine prevailed, huzzah! 6-1 to Craig.

Doctrine take on the Radiant!
Final game for week one fell on another new recruit, Lewis. Fielding the Corsairs vs Cerci who took a very flimsy but highly mobile list. The game progressed with Cerci sabotaging the primary thrice and another secondary only to be denied the final due to careful positioning. With an awesome redirect Isabeau managed to deflect 7 points of damage onto the Cerci primary objective only to destroy it two activations later for their primary objective completion! With a final show of pirate swagger the corsairs moved into melee and took on the Hells Belles who didn't have the cards to guard and went down in a fiery fireball of death (but damn it looked cool). An awesome 6 points to Lewis for his first game ever, well done sir!

With no room to manoeuvre the Belles bit the dust!

And that wraps up week 1 of Warwickshire Knighthood, its been a blast so far and there are games lined up for the next week so lets keep them going and see who is crowned champion! Thanks to everyone who attended and made for a great few evenings.

Craig McNicholas

Some say he’s half man half fish, others say he’s more of a seventy/thirty split. Either way he’s a fishy bastard.
